Ann is scholar of twentieth-century American art and fashion. She recently completed a two-year visiting professor position in the MA in Curatorial Practice program at the California College of the Arts and is currently the research project manager, Department of Special Program Initiatives, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, while she completes her PhD in the Department of Art & Art History at Stanford University.

From 2010 to 2016, she was an Associate Curator at the Bard Graduate Center, New York, where she organized several design and material culture exhibitions. Her publications include An American Style: Global Sources for New York Textile and Fashion Design, 1915-1928 (2013); Mondrian's Dress: Yves Saint Laurent, Piet Mondrian, and Pop Art (2023) co-authored with Nancy J. Troy; and contributions to DRESS: The Journal of the Costume Society of America, Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress, Body, & Culture, The Journal of Modern Craft, and The Winterthur Portfolio, among other journals and magazines.

Ann’s current research concerns include the work of Japanese-American weaver Alice Kagawa Parrott and the relationship between fashion and ethnographic photography during the interwar period a subject she takes up in her dissertation on the interwar scrapbooks of Cecil Beaton, Walker Evans, and George Platt Lynes.

In 2022, she co-edited a special issue of Fashion Studies examining the state of the field with Cleveland Museum of Art Chief Conservator Sarah Scaturro and she recently contributed an essay on early twentieth-century bohemian fashion to the de Young Museum exhibition Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style (2024). Ann’s work has been supported by The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale University, The Pauline Brown Fund, The Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, The Mellon Foundation, and the Terra Foundation of American Art.
